First of all - Wow - what a week it has been!
As a player I was always impressed with how friendly this community has been towards me, a relatively unknown outsider from that other WoT place. When I first came across to BtP, I was worried how I might be treated and whether or not I would fit in with the people already involved in this community. I'd just like to say a huge thank you to everyone for how friendly and community spirited you have been, and how easy you have made my job over the past week.
We are already one week in to the next phase of Beyond the Pattern, and I can hardly tell where the time has gone. Things finally seem to be shaping up and I was very encouraged to see no less than 8 players on the server last night and some fantastic RP from everyone involved. My target for this time next week is 10!
We have had a community meeting, something that I hope to make a regular feature, which included some very healthy discussion about the future of the project and was a great opportunity to discuss ideas. The main outcomes of that meeting identified a need for clearer policies regarding intellectual property submissions to the mod - currently ownership of the mod and all IP rests with the lead as head of the community so long as they are in office. The module itself is to be accessible by the Project Lead, Head of Development and Head of Storytelling. It was also decided that we require a constitution based system of expectations and I have posted a basic description of what I feel are our community standards and values. Finally, we discussed the current status of the server and our plot - opting to focus more on the White and Black Towers until we have a reliably large player-base as well as making a shift towards automating their management as much as possible. We also discussed a host of other bits and pieces that were more specific to individual factions or groups of players, so I won't go into detail about those here. I would make a log available but mine doesn't appear to have worked, so if anyone else present would like to do so I would be greatly appreciative.
The staff has also seen a spot of healthy growth in the form of Shadows Faithful becoming our newest Storyteller DM and I am discussing the role with two others - this means more events and more opportunities for RP, which is never a bad thing. Furthermore, Aurell has kindly taken up the Officer role and time permitting she will be involved on the DM side with mainly Tar Valon.
On the forums, you will now notice that some people have their names in colours. These correspond to positions amongst the Staff and if you check out the announcement on the staff structure you will be able to better understand the meaning of each position so you can be clear on what to expect from these people. In addition to this, some of you will now see a Faction Rank underneath your name when you post on the boards - This is a new initiative to help players identify each other on the boards (and a bit of a status symbol). If you find that your access to the forums you need access to has disappeared, you can easily request access to the correct group for your PC and one of the team will get that approved for you nice and quick.
This is a very exciting time for our community - We have some very engaging story developments in the pipeline that I can't wait to share with you, and the development side of things has never looked stronger. If you haven't checked out Four Kings since the update then you really need to - it's absolutely gorgeous.
Feel free to grab me or a member of staff in game, PM us on the boards, or poke us on Skype if you have any questions, queries or concerns.
Long may the Light Illumine you,
-Astarael
