Wheel of Time: Beyond the Pattern FAQ & Rules
Dear all,
On behalf of our players and team, I would like to introduce Wheel of Time: Beyond the Pattern.
We are an active Roleplay server that has returned to Neverwinter Nights 1 (NwN) in an effort to both continue the classic Wheel of Time (WoT) roleplay on NwN, and to preserve the rich history and culture of WoT on the medium. The Wheel of Time roleplay is inspired by and set within the context of Robert Jordan's world.
We have a small talented team of builders, scripters and DMs committed to enhancing, producing and facilitating roleplay in a diversity of environments and spaces as a mirror world based on the WoT universe. The core of the server itself has been and probably always will be an interesting and strong dynamic of player and factional interaction, development, dynamic outcomes, and sometimes conflict, that accommodates a wide range of roleplay styles. The module is being updated frequently and also contains many hunting areas, as well as 9 epic level 40 areas to relax, have fun and roleplay in.
Our key aim is to foster and facilitate a long-term community working in partnership to guide the module’s direction and future change as we look to modernise, innovate, and promote realistic roleplay and atmosphere, whilst strongly remaining focused on creating more fun and being as inclusive as we can.
Any new designs relating to systems, changes and implementation are for full public discussion and voting. But nothing is forever closed.
As to the timeline of our setting - we are a mirror world [see server timeline from Key Links Directory]. Book events are not guaranteed in any kind of order, DMs and players have creative freedom here to help shape major happenings within certain contexts.
We hope these questions will answer your immediate needs. But please feel free to ask on the forums or in-game for any further information.
All information about the server can also be located through our Key Links Directory .
You can also check this guide out if you're completely new to NwN or have more questions about roleplay on this server: New to Neverwinter Nights Roleplay FAQ.

{3. What are casters/channelers in the Wheel of Time setting like? (Click Here)}
Sorcerer, Wizard, Cleric, Druid and Shifter (sometimes Bard as well) are considered "channeler" classes here and function differently from the normal DnD setting. You may wish to read up on channeling more: Click Here

{4. Can you play a non-human character? (Click Here)}
Races - Everyone is allowed to play whichever NWN race they like as far as builds and appearances go, but in character they are all considered human. Tall humans, small humans etc. Half-orc is usually used for Ogier, but it could also be a large human.
The only playable races are humans and Ogier, and Ogier require DM permission to play as they have particular quirks that would need the player to be familiar with the setting.
Despite there only being two playable races, there is still enormous variety. One of the real charms of this setting are the numbers of nationalities, traditions, and peculiarities of nations and their people which lend to rich and colorful interactions, both regular and political.
For build purposes you may also choose what you like and switch to the human appearance via the body tailor in the OOC room.

{5. Where can I buy basic equipment? (Click Here)}
Fluffy, the historic chicken from Wheel of Time: Third Age, sells it in the Starting Area.

{6. What items should I buy and how can I get my first few levels? (Click Here)}
We recommend that melee fighters buy e.g. weapon and shield or weapon from Fluffy and then find Caemlyn in the Starting Area. Go through the gate and it will take you very close to the West Sewers. The sewers provide levels quite quickly as well as gold.
Alternatively, especially for channelers (casters), we recommend picking up a crossbow and bolts at the early levels. After this, head to Tar Valon and then go to the gate in the south-west of the city. This will take you to Tar Valon Bridge Town Alindaer. Head immediately to your right, and you will find a Boatman. Ask for the River Island Cave. In this cave are slow moving crabs that you can kill with a crossbow and familiar (roleplayed as a “reactionary weave” (lore name of a spell)) until you receive factional training. It’ll be possible to gain your first levels reasonably quickly this way.
You can take the crab legs you receive to the opposite side of Alindaer afterwards, returning via the boatman (click a sign to hand them in).
Channelers (casters) will become the fastest at levelling after level 10+. But we have a party XP script that awards hunting together with more XP.
XP and Gold loss from respawning is also very low.
If you continue on through Alindaer you will find yourself in Caemlyn, by just following the road south. If you head west from Caemlyn you will end up in Four Kings. These three areas (Tar Valon, Caemlyn and Four Kings) are the most common areas to join in Roleplay.
DMs will also award RP with XP and sometimes gold. It's perfectly possible to level up just from attending events, even if it might take a bit longer than mostly hunting.

{8. What about roleplay? What playable factions are there? (Click Here)}
We have a diverse group of players with different roleplay styles and different approaches to hunting.
Sometimes the best way is just to jump in and start Roleplaying!
You can pretty much RP anything within the general lore of the Wheel of Time universe, but don’t feel restricted to play cultures by the book. Though we ask that no one plays a Seanchan, Sharan or Shadowspawn, and Wolfkin, Aiel and Ogier need to be applied for.
If you’re unfamiliar with WoT, setting basics here & further information: Click Here
Alot of Roleplay and events revolve around the main player factions: White Tower and Younglings, Black Tower, Legion of the Dragon and Children of the Light.
Playable factions here: Click Here
You can also play as a non-faction and receive equipment with slower progression: Click Here
People are pretty friendly and the custom is to have one server party. This is simply in case of people wanting to chat casually but also helps to organise meetings. Just ask if you’re interested in joining a player faction for example, or even if anyone would like to RP in a major centre (Tar Valon, Four Kings, Caemlyn) and it’s likely someone will be able to help or point you in the right direction.

{9. How do I get involved in DM events? (Click Here)}
Some events (on the left hand bar "Some Upcoming Events") are faction specific or publicly open.
Checking staff profiles gives you an idea of timezones and event times: Click Here
Also, just ask to be involved in something including coming up with event ideas for your own characters and we will try to make it happen.

{10. Are there any systems or other things I might want to know about? (Click Here)}
These aren't necessary to know about to jump in and play!
But please check out our Key Links Directory for information about our Channeling Token System, RP Vouches, Talents and Commodities, Special Rules for Healing and Lore RP, and other useful information such as how to easily edit and rename in-game items with chat commands: Click Here
