The Black Tower
The Black Tower is the headquarters of the Asha'man, the organization of male channelers started by Rand al'Thor and trained by Mazrim Taim. It originated as a converted farmhouse located less than two leagues south of Caemlyn. The Black Tower's name derived from Asha'man themselves, who began calling such in contrast to the White Tower of Tar Valon, where female channelers are trained.
Recruits, soldiers and Dedicated have their separate barracks, while Asha’man and higher ranks have their own accommodations.

The One Power (Saidin)
Saidin (pronounced: seye-DEEN) is the male half of the One Power. It is described as a raging torrent of the Power which must be subdued and dominated by a strong-willed channeler in order to be controlled.
Men feel women holding the Source as a tingling on their skin, like goosebumps. They can also sense when another man is holding the Power though not in the way women do: a man would describe it as a feeling of awe and menace -- with nothing truly visible -- and not easily pinpointed to a particular location or person. The farther the channeling, the fainter the feel. While a female channeler can sense any woman channeling, sensing for men depends largely on the amount of saidin used in the weave.
No man can tell at sight if another man can channel, unless the other man has seized saidin. Testing for men involves channeling a simple flow until a "resonance" is felt from the one being tested. This may often take as long as fifteen to twenty minutes for those with the spark, and much longer for those who can only learn.
Saidin is described as a rough torrent requiring strict control, something you have to "seize" to gain, and fight to weave.
This essential difference in the nature of the two halves of the Power means that a woman cannot teach a man to channel, and vice versa.
Testing
Unlike women, men can not sense the ability to channel in another. Mazrim Taim was the first to claim the ability to test and train men for channeling. Taim grabs Damer Flinn to be the first tested, saying, "The more power that is used the easier it is to detect the resonance. Too big a resonance can do unpleasant things to your mind, maybe kill you, so I'll start small." Taim channeled a tiny flame and commanded Damer to concentrate on the flame. After ten minutes a resonance finally was detected, a tiny echo of the minuscule flow of power pulsing in Taim but seemed to come from Damer. Only time will tell how strong a man will become in the power. (WoT Wiki)
Ranks
There are six official ranks of Asha'man:
Recruit - The lowest rank; they wear no decoration on their collars.
Soldier - One step above Recruit, they earn this title when they show they can seize at will and understand Saidin and its basic principles.
Dedicated - Those who have advanced to a certain level of skill; they wear a silver sword pin on one side of their collars and are expected to give lessons to both Recruits and Soldiers.
Asha'man - They wear the Silver Sword Pin of the Dedicated as well as a Gold Dragon Pin on the other side of their collars; they are fully trained in the uses of the One Power.
Baijan'm'hael - They are squad leaders, and wear slightly more decorated coats. Expected to command their squad and wield Saidin with fierce capabilities.
Tsorovan'm'hael - This is the rank of the Faction Leader. He is to command the Tower for the Lord Dragon Reborn with Mazrim Taim and Logain Ablar. He oversees matters of the Black Tower that the M'hael Mazrim Taim does not concern himself with.
-End of PC Ranks-
Logain Ablar - False Dragon now in the service of Rand al'Thor. He is roughly on the same level as the Tsorovan'm'hael in rank, but has an air of command about him that says quite a bit more.
((NPC to be controlled by DM for events or other RP needs))
M'hael - Meaning Leader. Mazrim Taim, also a False Dragon, named himself this after being appointed the head of the Black Tower by the Dragon Reborn himself, Rand al'Thor.

** Recruits/Soldiers/Dedicated only required to salute Asha’man rank and higher. A salute is a closed-fist to the chest.
