Gavone does spend time with each of his men, taking the time to get to know them and learning as much information about them as possible. His training is harsh even by Black Tower standards and his expectations of each man are high. His goal is to turn them from the coals they are now into diamond quality assets of the Black Tower who are indebted to him for his tutelage and mentoring.
The blacksmith receives the majority of the time Gavone puts aside for mentoring his subordinates, recognising the importance of his talents with Earth. He asks the man to forge his steel in front of Gavone to observe whether the man channels Saidin during the process.
With the two brothers, Gavone politely enquires as to where the land is located and whether they might be open to using such land to better serve the Dragon. He uses his informant network to enquire after the health of their sister and provides them with regular updates. It is his hope that they will mention in the company of the less stable members of the group what the extent of his reach is in terms of acquiring information.
After the blacksmith, the Tairen receives most one-to-one time with Gavone who seems to have taken him under his wing and intends to groom him as the second in command as long as Gavone retains leadership. Most of his meetings with the nobility are conducted with the Tairen so that he may learn how to conduct himself properly as an envoy of the Black Tower and direct representative of the Lord Dragon.
The Shienaran is reprimanded quietly for allowing his emotions to get the better of him, and what the consequences of this may be for a man channeling Saidin. He is commended for the part he is playing in making Cairhien a safer place. Gavone takes the time to speak to the deceased's sibling and offers his sympathy, informing her of his regret at the unfortunate turn of events.
As his retinue is much smaller than his network of informants, he assigns a reliable member of his eyes and ears to every black coat in Cairhien (including himself) for the coming weeks. He relies on their prejudices, considering who they believe to be serving, to ensure they execute their mission with ruthless precision.
