The year is 999 NE
The mysterious Seanchan have crossed the ocean, recapturing Falme after fierce fighting against the Children of the Light. It is rumoured that fire and lightning filled the air in those days and that a man had blown the Horn of Valere.
In the aftermath, sensing the need for male channelers to be trained, Rand al’Thor announced Mazrim Taim as the head of a secret school, set up near Caemlyn, known as the ‘Black Tower’. Shortly afterwards Davram Bashere, coming down from Saldaea, located Rand and formed the core of the Legion of the Dragon.
Elsewhere, two False Dragons, both unknown, in Haddon Mirk and Altara, were put to the sword before anyone could name them. In Ghealdan, a man calling himself a ‘Prophet’ has emerged and begun preaching the coming of the Dragon Reborn. And due to the crisis in Cairhien, refugees poured into Andor.
Using elements of the Black Tower and Legion, Rand al'Thor then moved to proclaim himself the Dragon Reborn, taking the Stone of Tear, wielding Callandor the Sword That Cannot Be Touched. A second attack on the Stone by shadowspawn was also thwarted.
After a brief ‘siege’ of Tar Valon, the Children of the Light led by Eamon Valda have left their encirclement of the city. To the north, the Blight has retreated slightly, though trolloc raids increased.
Sensing the fulfilment of prophecy, the Amyrlin Seat Siuan Sanche declared Rand the Dragon Reborn. It was not long after that Rand entered the Aiel Wastes, and Rhuidean, becoming also ‘He Who Comes with the Dawn’, or Car'a'carn.
In Tarabon, the Children of the Light have intervened in politics and ensured the appointment of Lady Amathera as the Panarch of Tarabon after surrounding the Palace and putting down some riots.
Events have come to a dramatic and damaging head in Tar Valon, as Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, former advisor to Queen Morgase, organised a deposition of Siuan Sanche for her activities related to the Dragon Reborn. After stilling and imprisoning Siuan and her Keeper, they have since managed to escape Tar Valon. And while some sisters might discretely look to offer support to the escapees, Elaida now manages an uneasy and dangerous truce in the Hall.
The Seanchan did not stay quiet for long, and have since fought several large battles en route to capturing Arad Doman. The forces of local armies, the Children of the Light, Legion of the Dragon, Black Tower and possibly some elements of the White Tower have been involved. We know now that none of the nations along the Dead Sea can be safe and though the next move is yet to be made, it is presumed Tarabon is the next likely choice.
After rumours of some strange conflicts in the Two Rivers involving all manner of beasts, the Children of the Light have withdrawn from the area and Lord Captain Commander Pedron Niall seeks to influence affairs in Tarabon and Andor.
In Caemlyn, breaking tradition, Queen Morgase has fallen in love and named a new advisor – a man named Lord Gaebril of breath taking look, out of the Mountains of Mist.
Elsewhere, having worked on alliances with the Aiel Clans, Rand traveled to fight the Shaido at Cairhien with those Aiel who recognised him, as well as certain elements of the Legion and Black Tower. The ‘widespread’ discovery of travelling, at least among the two Towers, aided the forces in this conflict. Cairhien was eventually taken from the Shaido, with a man named Mat Cauthon also forming the Band of the Red Hand in battle. Conflict and unrest remains in the city.
Back in Tar Valon, it is thought that a strange man named Padan Fain has met with the new Amrylin Seat. And in Ghealdan, the Prophet has made it known he will take Amadicia for the Dragon Reborn.
Adding to the list of those missing from Tar Valon, Elayne has also disappeared. It has also since emerged that Gareth Bryne, Captain-General of Andor, has either gone missing, could be dead, or has appeared with some disturbing news from the Blight border.
With trouble brewing among the Houses and folk of Andor, the new adviser to Queen Morgase is purported to be doing valiantly in his attempts to rectify the situation by providing emergency food relief to Caemlyn's poorest. But from taverns and mercenaries one hears that certain of the Great Houses of Andor have already begun seeking out contracts with Cauthon’s Band of the Red Hand, to ensure their 'threatened' progeny.
The blight border has again expanded, gaining back the ground it lost. More trolloc activity is reported by the borderland nations.
A strange twist of the pattern allows word to spread, too, of a New False Dragon daring to challenge the Dragon Reborn, who has begun gathering the poor and hungry from Andor, in northern Altara.
Seanchan scouts have been spotted not far from the borders of Tarabon. Who will organise the defensive line? And how?
Questions also remain on the relationship between Andor and the Black Tower, as well as between the two Towers themselves.
